Fall prevention should begin before the first fall
Many families don't know where to start when they notice an aging parent becoming less steady, less active, or more hesitant around the home.
I've spent years working in the homes of older adults across Ontario and BC, and I've seen how much life changes when someone starts to feel unsteady.
Here's the good news: steadiness can be rebuilt, and the earlier you start, the easier it is. This program brings the same practical strategies our team uses with clients every week into a fun, supportive group.
Melissa Gunstone, Registered Kinesiologist and Founder of HomeStretchYou are not alone in wondering where to begin. The Public Health Agency of Canada reports that 20 to 30 percent of Canadian seniors experience one or more falls each year. The encouraging part is that strength, balance, and a few thoughtful changes around the house can shift those odds.
Over six Fridays at Niagara Orthopaedic Institute in Niagara Falls, Registered Kinesiologist Kayleigh Bush will lead a group through one new topic each week. The first 30 minutes explain why it matters for staying steady. The second 30 minutes put it into practice with exercises that challenge the brain and balance together, so you leave each session with something you can keep doing at home.
